KCLAY242003 (USA: FL) (2009/06/12): This review is for the series as a whole although I'm only currently on book 4. It was hard to get into the story after coming straight from the Twilight series. Do NOT read this series if you are obsessed with Twilight. It will disappoint and most likely annoy the stuffing out of you. In fact, it annoyed me for the first two books. I only kept reading because I had bought all five books at a discount together. The story itself was good but I could not get into the main character Zoey at first. She drove me nuts. Both Twilight and the House of Night series are told from the first person of young teenage girl. That's where the similarities end. Once you get past the first two books though, I have to say I'm rather hooked. Like I said, the story is good, but the telling could use some work. The point of view of a "typical teenager" is more than a little overdone. But it has very good ideas in the overall plot and set up. I would recommend if you haven't read Twilight. It's a very simple, uncomplicated and at times fun read. Just don't expect too much...
Renee S. (USA: NM) (2009/12/18): I took a little time to get into the story, but once I got throught the first I was pretty much hooked. I agree that it was hard coming down to this after Twilight, but if you can open up to the story then I like it a lot. I really like the plot of the story, but as a final not this book reminds me a little bit of a slightly more mature Harry Potter except this is a girl with vampires.
Amanda<33 (USA: FL) (2011/05/10): I wouldn't say that this book on its own is an amazing book. It's mainly the introduction to the characters in the rest of the books. The problem of the Dark Daughters in this book, is NOTHING compared to the rest of the series.
However, once you get further into the series, it gets amazing. This series is currently my favorite series ever, and is so much better than Twilight (and I like Twilight). I have read all 8 books in the series that are currently out, plus the Fledgling Handbook 101. I am so excited for the Nyx book **June 7, 2011**, Dragon's Oath **July 12, 2011**, and Destined **November 2011**. (mostly Destined!).
